It is regrettable that, as the SMILE chairman, I felt the need to make the recommendation to cancel this years SMILE.

We, as an organization, fight so hard for our individual freedoms, freedom of choice regarding helmets or the discrimination against what we choose to wear.

I could not ask anyone to attend an event in a city that mandates everyone wear a mask. 

I know some of our members have specific health issues regarding the wearing of a mask and could potentially cause problems for them.  Others have the need to wear a mask. Also a good number of our members could count themselves as part of the high risk group, with pre-existing conditions and age being among the reasons. 

It is with a heavy heart that I have decided that the 2020 John Pierce Memorial SMILE is cancelled.

The Board of Directors (state board meeting) will happen at Formans Roadhouse on August 1 at noon, where we will have available for anyone that attends a nice baked potato bar.

We will also award the Spurs to those that earned them.

However, we will still recognize them at the 2021 SMILE, along with all other award recipients. All chapters that have been planning on giving their awards at the SMILE are encouraged to award them next March at the 2021 SMILE. If a chapter decides to award them at a different time, we surely understand.
